about

This was the first recording of ‘Thinking about Kat’, made after an invitation by a man named Ben McAuley led to Emma and I visiting his Belfast studio. Emma and I had just been recording The Verve for BBC Radio Four and were on our way to Derry to record for the TV programme Other Voices. As you can hear, my voice was pretty Manchestered. The Other Voices recording was a disaster, I could barely open my mouth. Looking back now, I should have cancelled, but never mind. In the bar afterwards, some guy told me I was the worst singer he’d ever heard, which was nice of him. Anyway, this recording is great, so it was probably all worth it, somehow. One of my favourite of my songs, this.

The original came out on the Domino Records album 'The Cellardyke Recording and Wassailing Society' in 2014
