A bit of a weird one, this. I was approached to do it for a film, by, I think, Disney, although I could be wrong there. I had no idea what they wanted, though looking back now, I guess now it would have been a very straight rocknroll cover version. I don’t know why that didn’t happen, though I imagine I preferred this stripped back version and thought "fuck 'em".

It didn’t get used.

Doogie told me afterwards that he’d been speaking to his pal Dungo in Berties (the bar in Tollcross, Edinburgh, where we all drank) and that they’d come to the conclusion I should try harder when I get these opportunities. But I did try. And it sounded like this. If I’d tried any harder it could have come out even weirder and I couldn’t have even put it on this compilation. Bloody Dungo. What an eejit that boy was.

In fact, I probably wouldn’t even put Velvet Underground and Nico on the list. I’d leave 5 blank. I love the first four, though.
