about

A sad one, this. Written very shortly after Doogie’s death and recorded soon after that. We’d all been decamped in Bryn Derwen studios to record some work for an art installation somewhere and on our downtime, we got this done, plus a version of ‘As Grey and as White’. I loved Bryn Derwen, having recorded there a good half-dozen times before, but so soon after Doogie’s death, it was a horrible place to be in. So many memories of Doogie and the Athletes. Plus it was SO cold and damp that January.

I guess this could be noted for being one of the rare songs to have one of the Athletes (Reuben) playing along with some of the newer musicians I’d been working with. In fact, I think this was the last thing I recorded with Reuben. Up until now, at least. Which seems strange, as he was integral to those first four or five albums.
